The average day for Joan Baez during the Vietnam War: Go out and promote draft resistance, endure being kicked, spitted on and ultimately arrested for a day just to be able to convince a couple out of hundreds of men to turn in their draft cards.

    Repeat process next day.

Joan Baez was a true patroit unlike you teabagging assholes who are nothing more than spineless little rednecks

You sir are the traitor ,I’m a shamed of you, Joan Baez well go in the history books has a great American

  • MrLetfreedomring said:

She is a Traitor and Obama should be ashamed for ever allowing her in the Whitehouse, He just spit on the Vietnam War Memorial….she should move to Hanoi with her Hanoi friend Jane!

To see Joan Baez singing this song at The White House these many years later is a testimony in itself. Full circle met and The Civil Rights Movement will continue until ALL PEOPLE are treated equally. And thank YOU, Joan Baez, for having the courage to gently remind our President we don’t need more war.

Danke Joan, für alles, was Du in den vielen Jahren vollbracht hast! Love you!

and what is the name of that song? interesting how she wants to ‘make nice’ to the veterans after all these years of spitting on them…..wonder if she will plan a visit soon to the Taliban and show how nice they are similar to her trip to Hanoi?! She is a traitor!

Dear Joan, this was so important – afraid or not, you never drop that flag. Thank you for holding non-violence as your banner and for speaking it out loud any chance you get, low or high risk.
You are loved. And you are brilliant.

I so appreciate Ms. Baez for her grace and beauty and for finding a delicate and respectful way to broach the subject of the President’s current wars. She confronted LBJ about Vietnam from a stage inside the White House 46 years ago. Too bad there was no youtube then! On youtube this year she offered this same song in Farsi to Iranian dissidents.

Although I agree that thumbing down comments is ridiculous, do some research before you post, she has recorded a song in which proceeds went to American veterans.

It’s been said before but I will say it again. Joan Baez is a national treasure, an International treasure. This wise and compassionate woman’s unwavering commitment to civil rights and non-violence should be an inspiration to all. In this time of ineffectual and angry confrontation, her gentle diplomacy serves to remind us that there is a better way. Google “Joan Baez Idaho” to see her handle an ugly, angry demonstration with kindness, understanding and great skill. An example to follow.

Thank you Joan – we are not afraid – you have been singing We Shall Overcome nearly all your life and it still applies today. Your performance was filled with so much emotion and your mention of MLK was so appropriate and fitted in so beautifully – Joan you are so much loved, and thank you for never being afraid to speak out…..love you Joan.

“Joan, You, too, are so much loved!” To see & hear Joan sing the same song she sang (at Dr. King’s side) 47 years ago at the March on Washington (outside The White House), today (inside the White House) in front of President Obama is pretty amazing in many ways. I respect Joan for singing (and speaking) her heart & mind to audiences in concerts around the world, and doing the same to the most powerful man in the world, and not “skipping a beat”.

The whole concert was amazing but Joan made me cry! So beautiful! and in the White House with our wonderful young Black President, God Bless him.

    just brilliant joan

Joan has kept her voice in remarkably good shape. That takes practice and care. It’s not the achingly pure soprano it was, but she sings beautifully for a 70-year-old woman.

I disagree with Joan on probably 90% of her political views, but I admire her passion, sincerity, and dedication as an artist.

When you think of racial attitudes in the 1950s and 1960s, it is truly amazing that we have a black president. I just wish he were a limited govt libertarian.

Do you not see how brainwashed that sounds? The truth is out there.

  • iLuvAkeys4ever said:

Organjic: Negative thoughts will get you no where! Walking away from Terrorists ain’t gonna stop them from trying to kill every American they come across, just like walking away from Hitler ain’t gonna stop him from trying to take over the world with hate! The world we live in is both good and evil and sadly sometimes you have to fight fire with fire! if you truely want freedom and PEACE then this is the time to fight fire with fire!

Best song of the night and I am black LOL

Joan Baez is, in so many ways, unchanged since the first time I sat and sang along with her on this song. We were in our 20s then, and she’s no less powerful 40+ years later. I’m proud to see her taking part in this celebration.

  • TheAgentChaos said:

How great would it have been if she had played one song with Bob? It would have been so easy…

  • anmoose said:

@MrLetfreedomring, I’m certain that Joan doesn’t know and wouldn’t give a rat’s ass about who is thumbing down your comments. Showing our distaste for your shamefully uneducated and biased attitude is just as much our right as it is your right to behave like a twit.

This lady hates WAR, as most of us do. She most certainly has never hated American soldiers. Get a grip.
